Remember the cry uttered by the proponents of gun control, “If it saves one life, it’ll be worth it.” That cry now rings hollow with the tragic deaths of Constables Anthony Gordon, Lionide Johnston, Brock Myrol and Peter Schiemann. However, this unfortunate event reminds us all too well of how Canada’s police officers put their lives on the line for this country and its citizens day in and day out.

Commissioner Giuliano Zaccardelli said in a recent speech, and I quote, “There is no possible way to plan for or manage the insane behaviors of an individual who has crossed the line from criminal to stalker, from suspect to enemy.”

This is exactly the point that the law abiding firearms community has been making all along. If the RCMP had checked the registry for James Roszko’s firearms, they would have found none, as Roszko is prohibited from owning any firearms. As a result, the two billion dollar gun registry, which was sold to the public as a public safety tool, becomes utterly useless. The only people that the registry tracks are the law-abiding ones who pose no threat to society. Currently, there are over 176,000 individuals who are prohibited from owning firearms that are not being tracked by the registry. Imagine what a two billion dollar infusion into front-line policing would do!

The Liberals continue to spout off how the registry is used up to 2000 times a day, but they neglect to tell you that nearly all of this is a result of law abiding citizens trying to comply with the red tape that is costing you, the taxpayers, over $200,000 per day to administer!

The fact is that a large majority of the illegal firearms in Canada are smuggled in from the United States and many are taken on trade for illegally grown pot here in Canada. In fact, Canada Customs has seized 5446 guns and nearly 200,000 other prohibited weapons at border crossings over the last five years. Imagine how many actually get across the longest unguarded border in the world!

As Always…
Never Forgive - Never Forget
